Ford Freda, (1999) Used - Good condition Campervans for sale in Wales
Ford Freda pop-top camper van for sale. Direct import last year and i have been the first UK owner. Mileage is shown in kilometers (96,000 - clock face was changed on import to mph) which equates to approximately 60,000 miles. I have driven the vehicle about 6,000 miles since buying it early 2014. I bought it because it was immaculate, bodywork and interior. The previous owner had never had the pop-top up, it was completely dry and clean with no mold - and still doesn't have any mold. We have used the vehicle on a number of trips to the Lake District, New Forest, Exmoor, Mid-Wales and other places and it has been absolutely brilliant. We are only selling now to trade up to a caravan.
The inside is unconverted so retains the original seats. We decided against a converted vehicle because we wanted the original seats and to retain the MPV versatility. All our cooking equipment is separate and easily transportable. We have used it as a day van (second row of seats fold down to create a table) and for overnight sleeping accommodation (all seats fold down to create a nice big double bed - we use a self-inflating bed topper to add a bit more comfort). We have also invested in a Khyam drive-away awning, which has proven excellent for storage and day use.
The two-tone white/silver colour scheme you see in the photos is very nice and sets it apart from the very tired Mazda Bongos out there. This vehicle is badged Ford for a reason, the drive is impeccable, the comfort levels are impressive and the ride height provides a nice view of the road and surrounding areas. This vehicle does not look like it is 15+ years old, does not drive like a 15+ years old vehicle and hasn't done anywhere near the average mileage of a 15+ year old vehicle ( it has averaged approximately 4,000 miles per year!). It comes with a relatively new MOT and the underside was wax-oiled upon arrival in the UK.
The one thing that stands out above all else about this vehicle is the level of sophistication for a vehicle of this age. It has central locking (key activated not fob), in-dash radio/CD/DVD player/Television/reversing camera(this has got to be seen to be believed) system and whilst it is in Japanese you will soon get the hang of it. It needs to be converted to receive European broadcast channels, but my understanding is that this is an easy conversion (I would have had it done if we had been keeping the vehicle). It also has parking sensors front and back and reversing mirror as well! (a bit of an overkill, but all very useful indeed). I have quite a few reversing out of a parking spot towards another vehicle incidents where the other drivers start to panic not knowing that I know exactly how far I am away from them and never in any danger of hitting them. It can be quite amusing. The rear windows are factory darkened for privacy.
You will see some diesel versions of this available. We deliberately bought the 2.5ltr V6 petrol version for the smooth ride, but our understanding is that there is very little difference in fuel economy between the two. We opted for the drive comfort/smoothness of the engine and it has proven to us to be the right decision.
The only negative point that I can see with the vehicle is that is needs a new set of rubber, which I am willing to have put on the vehicle and would have done so in time for the 2016 camping season, but you may wish to specify your own tyres. We can discuss this as part of the negotiation.
We bought this vehicle for the long-term, but my better half has decided that she now wants a caravan (I don't think it will be anywhere near as much fun, but what do I know?). I am available after 6pm Monday - Friday and most weekends to talk in detail about the vehicle and to accommodate viewings. I am also willing to travel to meet you should this help with the mileage, but you may want to meet me at my place - I know I would for peace of mind and to ensure I am not a fraudster. I'll fit in with you.
During the working day I am only contactable by email - I cannot answer my mobile during the working day - and will respond as quickly as I can. If you don't hear back from me immediately, please be patient, I will respond. Please no texts to my mobile until I have spoken with you as these could well get lost in the plethora of junk we all receive on our mobiles and which get rapidly deleted.
Make me an offer I cannot refuse.
Thanks for reading - I hope I didn't bore you too much!
